National Forest

We’re proud to be the principal town of the National Forest. As one of the boldest environmental initiatives in the country, The National Forest is transforming a post-industrial landscape by creating a forest across 200 square miles of the Midlands, linking the ancient remnants of Charnwood and Needwood, into a new and beautiful forest.

From ancient woodland to newly planted trees, wildflower meadows to rugged, rocky outcrops, the National Forest offers a vibrant and varied landscape for visitors. Discover reminders of the Forest’s industrial past, explore bluebell woods and deer parks, join a forest bathing or bushcraft experience or traverse off-road cycle trails and walking routes; There’s so much to do in the Forest.
